International Risk Assessment and Cultural Property in the United Kingdom: A Blue Shield UK Webinar Blue Shield UK Conflict and Military Activity Working Group are hosting a webinar "International Risk Assessment and Cultural Property in the United Kingdom." We are so excited to share the incredible findings from a white paper written by BSUK's Dr. Elena Perez-Alvaro, together with experts from academia, armed forces and the heritage sector on the risks to cultural heritage in the UK. Laura Searson, who leads the Culture in crisis hub at the British Council will chair a discussion on the risks to heritage, from her own perspective and with Elena, the lead author, and Dr Tom Pinfold, the Royal Navy lead for cultural property protection. Blue Shield UK’s Conflict and Military Activities Working Group has developed practical guidance that brings international approaches to cultural heritage risk assessment into the UK context. It identifies the principal conflict-related, human and environmental risks affecting tangible cultural heritage, examines the relevant UK legal framework, and brings together tools for assessing vulnerabilities and developing mitigation measures. The webinar will introduce this framework and explore how it could support heritage preparedness, military training, policy development and cooperation across sectors. The paper is a practical guide for integrating cultural heritage risk assessment into policy development, military training, academic research, and strategic planning.
