Let me make it up to you
Lunch is my treat. I wanna make it up to you
I wanna make it up to you, So I got a plan
I’m gonna make it up to you, I promise
Ballpark figure:
= a number which is approximately correct.
Ex) give me a ballpark figure. How much?
A six-figure income 억대연봉 (= a six-figure salary) 미화 $100,000
We’ll figure something out.
I’m stuck in traffic. (traffic jam, bumper to bumper)
I’m stuck at work. I’m stuck at school.
I need to take a rain check. I’m stuck at work. * take a rain check.
3. I want to say ~ = I wanna say~ (캐쥬얼하게 사용가능 – 진심을 담아) ~라고 꼭 말하고 싶어.
I want to say thank you / I wanna say thank you.
Dean, I wanna say thanks for doing this.
I (just) wanted to say~:
I mean it (진심이야)
4. Grab:
Let’s grab lunch sometime.
Let’s grab dinner sometime. / we should grab dinner sometime.
- do you have some time?
let’s grab a drink or whatever sometime. *간단히 술한잔: grab a drink.
Let’s go grab a bite 뭐 좀 간단히 먹고 오자 *bite(한입)
Let me go grab my keys. / let me go grab my phone.
Let me go grab my coat
Sure, grab a seat.
5. company:
Do you want some company?
I enjoy your company. / I enjoyed your company
Nothing. I enjoy her company.
I did enjoy her company. (enjoyed
6. I didn’t mean to + 동사원형: 일부러~한게 아니었어/ ~을 의도한게 아니었어.
I didn’t mean to be late
I didn’t mean to~
I don’t mean to~
I don’t mean to be late, but I’m stuck in traffic.
I didn’t mean to be late,(but) I was stuck in traffic.
I don’t mean to interrupt, but I have extremely important news. – what?
I’m sorry, Mr. O’brien. I didn’t mean to interrupt your dinner.
7-1 ‘데리러 오다’의 pick up
Can you pick me up at 5:30?
Drop me off at 9:30 and pick me up at 9:45 sharp.
7-2 Pick up: (간단히) 사오다.
I’ll go pick up some coffee. (go and pick up을 줄려서 가서 사오다란 의미)
Picked you up some coffee.
And I picked up some Chinese food for dinner.
Did you guys pick up on that?
How did you not pick up on that?
When did you pick up on that?
I picked up some German.
I did pick up some German during my stewardess days.
Well, it’s sort of a bad habit I picked up being a reporter.
8. call it a day/ night:
Okay, let’s call it a day.
늦게까지 야근/회식하거나 놀 때 let’s call it a night (이쯤에서 그만하고 집에 가자)
Okay, um.. let’s call it a day.
Wrap it up, Chapman
, Chapman
9. run some errands / run an errand 볼 일좀 보다.
I need to run an errand (볼 일이 하나 있음) / I need to run some errands (볼 일이 여러개 있음)
Uh, just going to run some errands.
Last but not least,
10. make up (부족한 것을 채우는 느낌) *make-up class: 보강/보충수업 (빠진 부분을 채우는 느낌)
‘만회하다/보상하다’란 의미의 ‘make it up to 사람’ (보통 잘못하고 나서 말함)
Let me make it up to you.
-영영 사전에 나온 make it up to의 의미:
to do something helpful or good for (someone one has hurt or treated wrongly)
Lunch is my treat. I wanna make it up to you.
Ex) I wanna make it up to you. So I got a plan.
I’m gonna make it up to you. I promise.
