깨어있는 아름다운 별
The beautiful star that is awake
세계 각처에서 오신 훌륭한 지도자님들이 모인 오늘의 이 자리에 저도 함께하게 된 것을 영광으로 생각합니다.
I am honored to be a part of this gathering of great leaders from all over the world.
우리 인류는 지구의 각처에 흩어져 살아오면서 환경에 순응하고 진화하여 만물 가운데 가장 뛰어난 영장이 되어 문명을 일구고 문화를 꽃 피워왔다.
그리하여 이제는 문명의 차원이 달라지면서 과학이나 산업은 발달하여 인공지능 시대가 열리고 사이버 세상을 누리는 문명 사회가 되었습니다.
Over the course of our existence, humankind has spread across the globe, adapting to diverse environments, evolving into preeminent entities among all living beings, tirelessly cultivating civilizations, and nurturing flourishing cultures.
Now, civilization has remarkably advanced, science and industry have progressed, the era of artificial intelligence has begun, and we have become a society that enjoys the cyberworld.
지금은 우주 과학이 발달하여 인공위성이 달이나 화성을 탐사하고 그 너머의 별들도 스케치하면서 지구 밖의 외계에 있는 자원에 눈을 돌리고 있는 시대이다.
우주 과학자들은 지구 밖의 외계에서 생명체를 탐사하며 그 존재 가능을 위한 물을 오랫동안 찾았다.
달이나 화성에 물이 있다면 우주인이 착륙하여 그곳의 미션을 수행할 때 이 물을 활용할 수 있기 때문이다
"Now, space science has advanced to the point where artificial satellites are exploring the Moon and Mars, and even sketching distant stars beyond. We are now in an era where our attention is turning to the resources beyond Earth in the cosmos."
Space scientists have long been exploring the possibility of life beyond Earth by searching for water in extra-terrestrial places.
This is because if there is water on the Moon or Mars, spaceman explorers could utilize it for their missions.

과학자들은 달 표면에 흩어져 있는 작은 유리 구슬을 가져와 분석하니 물 성분이 함유돼 있다 했고, 화성의 남극 근처에서 대형 지하 호수를 찾았다고 발표하면서 환호했는데, 그 물의 성분을 추출하여 제대로 사용할 수 있을지는 의문이다.
Scientists have brought back small glass beads scattered on the lunar surface
and, upon analysis, found that they contain water.
They also cheered as they announced the discovery of a large underground lake near Mars' south pole, but it remains uncertain whether the water can be extracted and effectively utilized.
그곳에서는 빛의 굴절이나 흙을 감싸고 있는 공기 등이 다르고, 어떤 생명이 어떻게 생존하는 지에 대해 우리의 잣대로는 아직 미지수이며, 거기는 우리가 가서 적응하기가 지극히 어려운 환경이다.
그러나 우리가 살고 있는 이 지구라는 별은 사막이라 할지라도 지하수를 찾을 수 있고 대기 속에서도 물을 짜낼 수 있으며 우주복을 입지 않아도 시원한 산소를 마음껏 들이 킬 수 있으니, 이 지구는 참으로 축복 받은 곳이다.
"In these locations, various factors such as the refraction of light, the composition of the surrounding air, and other elements differ significantly from Earth. How life might survive there is still an unknown puzzle.
Moreover, the environments there would be incredibly challenging for us to adapt to if we were to visit.
However, our planet Earth, even in its harshest regions like desert, offers us the ability to find groundwater, extract water from the atmosphere, and breathe fresh oxygen without the need for spacesuits. In this regard, Earth is indeed a truly blessed place."

지금, 저 하늘 멀리 우주의 다른 별에서 바라본다면 이 지구도 밤하늘 에 빛나는 하나의 별이다. 이 은하계에서 이 지구처럼 온갖 만물이 서로 어울리며 살아가는 아름다운 초록색의 별을 아직 발견하지 못 했다고 한다.
"Right now, if you were to view it from a distant star in the universe, Earth would also be a shining star in the night sky."
"It is said that within this galaxy, we have not yet discovered a beautiful green star like Earth, where all kinds of life coexist as they do."
그러니 우리 모두는 이 우주 속에 선택된 영광의 천상이며 천국인 별 가운데 살아가는 천사 같은 존재들이다.
다만 대자연 속에서 다른 생명을 존중하고 서로 서로 조화를 이루면서 슬기롭게 살아갈 대에 말이다.
Therefore, all of us are glorious celestial beings, akin to angels, chosen to live among the heavenly stars in this universe.
However, this is true only when we respect other life forms within the realm of nature, coexist harmoniously with them, and live wisely.

그런데 지금 이 지구에는 사람들 끼리 경제와 자원을 다투고 빈부, 사상, 종교, 인종의 문제 등 많은 갈등을 야기하고 있다. 이 시대에는 소위 문명 사회가 다원화 되고 가속화 되면서 자원은 더욱 고갈 되어 가고 그 부작용은 늘어나고 있다.
자연을 분별없이 착취하여 망가뜨리고 온갖 자원을 남용하여 고갈 시키면서 땅과 바다와 대기는 오염되어 자연 재해가 갈수록 빈번히 발생한다.
"However, on this planet called Earth at this moment, there is competition among people over resources, issues of wealth inequality, as well as conflicts related to ideology, religion, and race, among others.
In this era, our civilization is becoming more diverse and accelerating.
In this process, resources are gradually depleting, and the associated side effects are increasing.
Nature has been indiscriminately exploited and damaged, with various resources overused and depleted. Land, seas, and the atmosphere have become polluted,
leading to an increasing frequency of natural disasters."
이러한 인간의 이기와 독선이 땅과 숲을 망쳐 다른 생명들이 멸종되거나 사막화 되어가고 있다. 온갖 원인으로 배출되는 가스는 지구 온난화를 야기하고 있다. 이로 인하여 지구 양극의 빙하가 녹아 해수면이 높아지고 수온이 상승하면서 이상 기온의 원인이 되고 있다. 지구 곳곳에서 일어나는 태풍이나 폭염은 일상적인 일이 되어가고 잇다.
"Human greed and arrogance have caused damage to the land and forests. Many species have gone extinct, and desertification is becoming increasingly severe.
The emission of various gases is causing global warming, which in turn leads to the melting of polar ice and rising sea levels.
Higher sea temperatures are also contributing to extreme climate events such as hurricanes, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves occurring in various regions."

이런 지구의 몸살과 재앙이 소위 만물의 영장이라는 사람들의 야만에 의해 저질러지고 있는 것이다. 저 먼 다른 벌에서 관측한다면 우주 속의 가장 아름다운 천국인 이 지구라는 별을 지옥으로 만드는 주범이 바로 여기에 살고 있는 사람들이라는 말이다.
"These afflictions and calamities of the Earth result from the barbarism of humanity,
who mistakenly believe themselves to be the superior beings among all life forms.
If observed from a distant star, it's likely that the culprits turning the most beautiful paradise in space, Earth, into a hell would be the very humans living here."
이제 인류들의 신앙과 문화는 이 지구 별이 이 우주에서 가장 아름다운 천국임을 믿으면서 지구의 생태를 선순환 시키도록 노력하는 문명으로 바꾸어야 한다.
천지는 한 뿌리이며 만물이 한 몸이기 때문에, 인간 중심으로 살아가는 방식에서 외연을 넓혀 다른 동물과 식물과 광물과 물과 공기의 햇살마저도 반려자로 삼아 모든 생명들이 어울리면서 살아가는 지혜로운 문명으로 바꾸어야 한다
"Now, humanity's beliefs and culture must undergo a transformation. We should believe that Earth, this star, is the most beautiful paradise in the universe and strive to become a civilization that nurtures and sustains the ecosystem. The sky and the earth share a common root, and all things are interconnected. We need to move beyond a human-centric way of life and broaden our horizons. Thus, we should regard animals, plants, minerals, water, air, and even sunlight as companions. Our goal is to evolve into a wise civilization where all life forms coexist harmoniously."

우리의 삶을 절제하고 다른 생명들과의 연기적인 공생을 위해 지혜롭게 살아야 한다. 그것이 바로 이 지구라는 아름다운 별을 잘 지키면서 우리 인류의 후손들과 대자연 속의 다 른 생명들이 서로 서로 오래 오래 공존하는 최상의 신앙과 문화가 될 것이다.
"We must live modestly, practicing restraint in our daily lives, seeking a life of interdependence with other living beings, and embracing profound wisdom.
By doing so, we can care for this beautiful star, Earth, and cultivate a profound religious tradition and culture that allows future generations and the diverse life forms of nature to coexist harmoniously for generations to come."
대승불교에서는 "부처님께서 깨어있는 밝은 새벽의 별을 보고 성도 하셨다"고 하는데, 그 별은 바로 이런 별일 것이다.
According to Mahaya Buddhist tradition, it is said that "the Buddha Sakyamuni
attained enlightenment upon seeing the morning star."
The star that the Buddha saw must have been a star like this one.
