Also near Gimpo, in the small village of Mojoeng, at the foot of Mount Suan, is a 500-year-old that was once graced with a covered pavilion where the villagers escaped from the heat of summer, made important village decisions, and socialized. However, the tree also has a dark history. At one time there was a small jail located nearby and the tree was used as a gallows for hanging criminals. With so much death surrounding the tree, some people believed it was possessed by the spirits of the executed. The nuts for this tree are not used in ceremonies – presumably because of the taint of death surrounding it. It is feared but revered as the village’s guardian and an annual memorial ceremony is held.

김포 인근, 수안산 자락의 작은 마을 모정에는 마을 사람들이 한여름 무더위를 피하고 마을의 중요한 결정을 내리고 사교를 즐기던 500년 된 정자나무가 있습니다. 하지만 이 나무에는 어두운 역사도 있습니다. 한때 근처에 작은 감옥이 있었고 이 나무는 범죄자를 교수형에 처하는 교수대로 사용되었습니다. 나무를 둘러싼 수많은 죽음으로 인해 일부 사람들은 이 나무가 사형수의 영혼에 씌어 있다고 믿었습니다. 이 나무의 견과류는 의식에 사용되지 않는데, 아마도 이 나무를 둘러싼 죽음의 기운 때문일 것입니다. 두려움의 대상이지만 마을의 수호신으로 존경받으며 매년 추모식이 열립니다.

● 도나무 5-170호로 지정된 대곶면 율생리에 있는 은행나무는 수령이 500년, 나무높이 20m, 나무둘레3.5m, 수관직경이 18m, 면적 254㎡인 정자목으로 수형이 부채꼴을 이루고 있으며 고려시대 때에는 죄수의 교수형장(絞首刑場)이었다고 전하여 이 나무에서 딴 은행은 제사상에 올리지 않는다는 전설이 있다.
